High School Lockdown a Success by: Matthew Van Gorp

ECHS completed its first lockdown drill of the school year on October 9th.  Since the drill fell in the middle of nine weeks testing, teachers were informed previous to the drill.  During second period the lockdown began and lasted approximately 8:53 and was announced over at 9:03. The school was given high marks on the drill by the law enforcement present. Always looking to improve student safety, areas to address according to the report, “areas where people were seen, classroom noise.”

During the lockdown drill many classrooms divide the chores to the students, so that getting secure moves smoothly.  Teachers and students know that these drills are important and take them seriously. Locking doors and covering windows are only a small part of this drill.  According to Corporal J. C. Pfeil, School Resource Officer’s report, “The security and safety  of the Teachers, Staff, and Students is job number one for the School Resource Officers, the El Campo Police Department, the Constable’s Office and the Sheriff’s Department.”
