FFA Dairy Judging Team Earns National Honors By Ryan Williamson

The State Champion FFA Dairy Judging team travelled to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana to compete in the national contest from Oct. 23-26. Team members Abby Anderson, Bethani Gold, Erin Jeffrey, and Ryan Williamson qualified for the event by becoming the top team in the state of Texas.

The national contest lasts two days and consists of a variety of different components such as placing classes and a team presentation that adds up to a final team score. The team’s final score earned a ‘silver’ rating among the 41 other states participating in the event. Anderson, Jeffrey, and Williamson individually earned ‘silver’ status and Gold received ‘bronze’ status. The team was coached by ag educator Shawn Peters.

Before, between, and after competing, the members enjoyed touring Indianapolis, viewing various landmarks, and visiting the convention. The members enjoyed learning about the state’s culture and history while learning about the FFA on the national level.

The students returned home to make up coursework and prepare for their upcoming leadership development event contests.
