Academic and All State Cheer By: Megan Stavena and Madison Ledwig

Some of the State-ranked ECHS cheerleaders recently were named to the prestigious Academic All State and All State honors.

“I think that all the girls worked really hard especially since this is the first time that I've had so many seniors,” cheer coach Pam Hunt said of the Academic All State honors. “To maintain this high of a GPA for four years is really hard and being so active in cheer.”

Awarded with Academic All State 2018 were seniors Cameron Crivellari, Christine Hunt, Natalie Mireles, Elyssa Smith, and Victoria Zalman.

All five of these seniors are ranked in the top 10% of their class and had to maintain a 92 or above average throughout high school.

Awarded with All State Cheer 2018 were seniors Christine Hunt, Cameron Crivellari and Hannah Petty, junior Emily Wilson, and sophomore Madeline Rod.

To be awarded All State Cheer, students had to be identified as an All-American as a sophomore, junior, or senior, have a high GPA, and be involved in the community and school.

These honors follow the cheerleaders’ performance at the UIL State Cheer competition in January when they tied for fifth out of 80 4A teams.

“That carries over to why these girls have been honored as All State Cheer,” Mrs. Hunt said. “They were super excited just to go against so many teams and to place so high … all the early morning practices and hard work paid off.”

Receiving All State recognition is another way the state honors students who excel in athletics.
